The Wichita Mile

The Wichita Mile Race Information

<p><span style="color:rgb( 132 , 63 , 161 )">Wichita&#39;s Premier Road USATF certified 1 mile race.</span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 132 , 63 , 161 )">The time has finally come to figure out how fast you can actually run a mile. Test your top mile speed once each season, collect milestones, and receive awards for Age Graded PRs.</span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 132 , 63 , 161 )">We break this race up into waves based upon runners estimated pace so runners can be pushed towards their PRs without worrying about fighting through crowds while being pulled along by athletes of a similar caliber.</span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration:underline;color:rgb( 185 , 106 , 217 )"><strong>When</strong></span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 185 , 106 , 217 )">This year is the OG event and will take place October 26th, 2025 starting at 8 am for the first wave and no later than 11:45am for the last wave. Following years the race will occur once each season. The Spring and Fall will take place two weeks after Prairie Fire so runners can test their top mile time while they are in peak fitness and hopefully while fully recovered from Prairie Fire. The Winter and Summer will take place a couple weeks before Track/XC start so the student athletes can participate and get a good preseason time trial in.</span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration:underline;color:rgb( 35 , 111 , 161 )"><strong>Where</strong></span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 53 , 152 , 219 )"><span style="color:rgb( 35 , 111 , 161 )">This years event will be taking place at Sim&#39;s Park. Primary parking is the large lot between the river and Botanica on Sim Park Drive right next to Cowtown. (pending Botanica&#39;s green light). This will also be the finish line. Start line will be closer to the golf course parking lot. There will be a marked shortcut between the two locations</span>. </span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration:underline;color:rgb( 53 , 152 , 219 )"><strong>Teams</strong></span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 53 , 152 , 219 )">You and 4 teammates, run club buddies, coworkers, classmates, friends, family, etc sign up in the same group/team and be eligible for the team awards. Top 3 teams with the best average age grade will be recognized and receive the team awards.  Don&#39;t forget since this event is in waves, you&#39;ll likely have the opportunity to cheer on your teammates before or after your run.</span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 53 , 152 , 219 )">Will it be one of the local run clubs to take the prize (Run Wichita, TJ&#39;s, Run 316, ERC, F88, Delano Desperados) or is there a quick family, workplace, school out there who can take them down?</span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 45 , 194 , 107 )"><span style="text-decoration:underline"><strong>Awards</strong></span>  <em>(we do things a little different)</em></span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 45 , 194 , 107 )">First time you compete you will receive your Wichita Mile chain and your first mile stone.</span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 45 , 194 , 107 )">Following years runners will receive a black mile stone to add to your Wichita Mile Chain for completing the mile, but when you set an Age Graded PR for yourself then you will receive that years mile gemstone to mark the PR. 4 chances each year to get the gemstone of the year. Age Graded PRs are determined by your past performances at the Wichita Mile. Since this is the first Wichita Mile Race no one is currently eligible for a Age Graded Wichita Mile PR so no gemstone yet.</span></p> <p><span style="color:rgb( 45 , 194 , 107 )">Top 5 Men and Women overall, Top 5 Age Graded, and Top Team, and Top Clydesdale and Athena will receive free entry into the next 2 Wichita Mile events in 2026 and receive Fartleks Gift Cards!</span></p>
