This 6-week program is geared toward youth athletes roughly 10 years and older looking to improve their running form and pacing. Most sports Arlington youth play require running - either anaerobic bursts or more continuous aerobic efforts - so we will work on building their base, knowing when to turn on the gas, and all paces in between.
We will plan to meet at the Washington-Liberty High School track. If a W-L sports event closes the track to public use, Coach Kate will notify parents ahead of time (if/when possible). If the track is closed, we will meet at the nearby Oak Grove Park.
Details:
- Wednesdays at 6:00pmĀ (finished by 6:45pm)
- StartingĀ 16 September and wrapping up on 21 October.
- Parents are welcome to participate - you don't need to register and run at your own risk, of course. Or take the opportunity to get your own workout in.
- Each session will involve aĀ warm-up followed by repeats of varying distances: some days we will do shorter sprint-based repeats; other days we will do 400m and/or 800m repeats. And there will be at least one endurance-focused session: run as many laps as possible in a given amount of time.
- Coach Kate will provide guidance onĀ form and pacing along the way.
- The kids will receive aĀ post-run snack at the end of each run.
- The last session (21 October) will culminate in practice 3k and 5k races.
- All athletes will receive aĀ medal at the end of their practice race - help your kids work toward that goal!
