About The Parkway Mile

The shortest race on the longest day.

Come celebrate the impending completion of the Champlain Parkway with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sprint, jog, or walk a mile on a road that has taken 60 years to complete and will soon be open to traffic from end-to-end, stretching from I-189 to Lakeside Avenue.

Location. The Parkway Mile will take place completely on the Champlain Parkway, with the start/finish just south of the intersection with Home Avenue.

Parking. We have permission for participants, spectators, and members of the community coming to walk on the portion of the Champlain Parkway not being used for The Parkway Mile at the following locations:

  • 208 Flynn Avenue;
  • Petra Cliffs (auxiliary parking) - 103 Briggs Street; and
NOTE: There is absolutely no race parking on Briggs Street itself, in the City Market parking lot, or at the primary Petra Cliffs parking lot
  • Burton Snowboards - 180 Queen City Park Road.

Bike Parking. On-site safe, secure, and free Valet Bike Parking is provided by Local Motion from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. This will be in the staging area for the start/finish, just off of Home Ave.

Course & Participant Cap. This race is an out-and-back on the northbound lane starting at approximately the intersection of Champlain Parkway & Home Ave. It is open to runners and walkers that can complete the mile in less than 25 minutes, but will be capped at 400 registrants.

Bib Pickup. Bibs can be picked up from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on the morning of June 21, 2026, in the staging area (Champlain Parkway, just off Home Avenue).

Waves & Awards. To create the safest race experience possible, waves are based on predicted finish time and are all approximately the same size. This will also allow us to fully complete a wave before starting the next wave:

  • Wave 1 - 10:05 AM: Participants expecting to finish sub-6:29
  • Wave 2 - 10:20 AM: Participants expecting to finish between 6:30 and 7:59
  • Wave 3 - 10:35 AM: Participants expecting to finish between 8:00 and 9:29
  • Wave 4 - 10:55 AM: Participants expecting to finish between 9:30 and 11:59
  • Wave 5 - 11:15 AM: Participants expecting to take longer than 12:00

Please let us know (by sending an email to registration@runvermont.org) if you are interested in participating in an earlier wave to solo race a mile and also want to participate in a later wave with a child. We will try to accommodate both at no additional charge.

There will be an awards ceremony at approximately 11:45 AM for overall (F/M/NB), masters (F/M), and top performers in the following age groups (F/M): 4-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+.

Finisher's Certificate. All finishers will receive a unique finisher's certificate to document their completion of (most likely) the one and only The Parkway Mile.

Race Shirts. The South End's Amalgamated Culture Works will be screen printing race shirts at the race. Watch your highly limited-edition commemorative race shirt be screen printed right before your eyes. Shirts come in two colors and both adult and youth sizes. $20 each, with cash, credit card (tap only), and Venmo accepted.

Prohibitions & Spectators. Given the nature of the event, strollers and pets are strictly prohibited. Spectators are allowed on the southbound lane for the majority of the route.

Race Proceeds. All race proceeds will be donated to Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS).

NOTE: If the race sells out, we will allow transfers for $10/registrant and may utilize a waitlist.
